Empowering the women of PayFast this Women’s Day

Women’s Day is a day when women are recognised for their achievements, irrespective of their background, whether it be their nationality, ethnicity, culture, economic background or political beliefs.

Although the main focus of Women’s Day is to celebrate women, it’s important to look at the reality that many South African women face on a daily basis. Gender-based violence (GBV) is a profound and widespread problem in South Africa, impacting almost every aspect of life.

How can we celebrate our women without trying to overcome the challenges we face every day? Unfortunately, many women endure senseless rapes, murders and abuse on a daily basis. A scary fact is that every 3 hours a woman is murdered in South Africa, by the end of today 8 women would have lost their lives needlessly. Between 2019 and 2020 alone we lost 2,695 women to murder.

Empowering and protecting our women

We can’t change the world, but we can take action to make small differences, starting with those closest to us.

This year at PayFast we are not only celebrating our women, but also EMPOWERING & PROTECTING our women! Instead of celebrating this day with pampering, treats and pretty things, this year PayFast is thinking BIGGER! We are being proactive and protective.

We are starting with something simple: a keyring, a keyring that could save a life. A keyring that looks harmless but packs a punch. We found a way to protect our women without an attacker recognising a weapon before she is able to use it. Something that can be carried around everywhere with ease and simple access. PLUS – it’s cute!

As a company that supports entrepreneurship, female-led companies, and loves and takes care of their employees – for Women’s Day 2021 we are going bigger than a chocolate or gift box. We Are Empowering!

We are also supporting a small local, female-owned business owner, Kendra, who is trying to make an impact in South Africa. You can find out more about her and her mission on her Instagram page.

Happy Women’s Day special Ladies and thank you for the impact you have made in this world.
