How we started something priceless with Mastercard

During the months of August and September 2021, we gave 9 lucky online shoppers the chance of a lifetime by rewarding them with an online shopping spree worth R100,000 each. This was part of an exciting initiative we ran in partnership with Mastercard, aptly called Start Something Priceless, that sought to reward consumers checking out with their Mastercard or scan to pay using Masterpass at any South African online store using PayFast as their payment gateway

Congratulations to the following online shoppers who were randomly selected every week in the months of August and September, who each won a R100,000 online shopping spree:

  • Raymond Boswel
  • Lascelle Naidoo
  • Mokgadi Mmolai
  • Nassief Flanders

Each of these lucky online shoppers was given a digital PayFast wallet which they could spend at any online store that uses PayFast. They also had the option to make a donation to their favourite charity listed on the PayFast Cause Index

Promoting small local businesses

In addition to the lucky draw through which the online shoppers were chosen, the two-month-long campaign was successful in increasing local small business brand exposure, sales and profits. To showcase which online stores were using PayFast, a special landing page was created to profile a few online store business owners, including the founders of Clenergy, Franklees and VAYA Footwear, as well as an extensive list of other online stores from a variety of different industries. 

We also encouraged the small businesses that use PayFast to promote the Start Something Priceless initiative on their social media channels to encourage their followers to make a purchase with their Mastercard. Overall it was a win-win for everyone.   

While we’ve collaborated on a number of interesting initiatives over the years, we can honestly say that to date this partnership with Mastercard has been our biggest – and most rewarding. We noticed an increase in Mastercard sales for the online businesses using PayFast, and hope they, and the online shoppers, enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
