Masterpass by Mastercard is leading the scan-to-pay movement by positioning themselves as the one-stop organizer for QR codes in South Africa. This follows Mastercard’s recent announcement of interoperability agreements between Zapper and SnapScan.
The good news is that merchants who have the Masterpass payment option enabled on their PayFast account are now able to accept payments from Zapper users!
This move aims to drive the usage of QR codes among merchants and shoppers in general but also widen the network of shoppers for Masterpass merchants.
Merchant benefits:
- Access to both Masterpass and Zapper users resulting in more potential buyers.
- Merchants are effectively able to accept an additional payment method through the Zapper app.
Buyer benefits:
- Buyers only need a single app allowing them to pay at Masterpass, Zapper and even SnapScan merchants.
Masterpass is a default payment method that is enabled on all PayFast accounts when you verify your account. To make sure if you have Masterpass enabled, select Settings > Payment Methods from your dashboard. A green tick indicates the option is already enabled.
